Product Description The 3-Slot 18650 Battery Holder is a rugged, open-frame enclosure designed to house three lithium-ion cells in a series configuration. By combining the voltage of three 3.7V cells, this holder provides a powerful 11.1V to 12.6V output, making it the ideal portable power source for 12V DC motors, high-power LED strips, and robotic controllers. Its lightweight design and high-quality nickel-plated springs ensure a secure electrical connection even in high-vibration mobile applications.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • BMS Requirement: Because this holder connects cells in series, we strongly recommend using a 3S BMS (Battery Management System). This ensures that no single cell is over-discharged or over-charged, which is critical for battery safety and lifespan.

  • Voltage Regulation: At full charge, the output is ~12.6V. If your controller (like an Arduino) is sensitive to voltages above 12V, use a Step-Down (Buck) Converter to provide a stable 5V or 7V while utilizing the full 12V for your motors.

  • Polarity Check: Always verify the (+) and (-) markings molded inside the holder. Inserting a battery backward in a series string can cause a short circuit or damage the other cells.

  • Mechanical Security: Use M3 screws to fix the holder to your chassis. For high-speed rovers, add a Velcro strap or a large rubber band over the batteries to ensure they don't pop out during sudden impacts.
