Product Description

The SMA to U.FL Jumper is designed for low-loss signal transmission in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless bands. The 10cm cable is highly flexible, allowing for easy routing inside tight electronic housings. The SMA Female end includes a nut and washer, specifically designed for bulkhead mounting, meaning you can bolt it directly onto a plastic or metal project box. This allows the user to screw on a standard SMA antenna from the outside while keeping the delicate U.FL connection safe and stationary inside the enclosure.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • The U.FL "Snap" Test: U.FL connectors are very delicate and are only rated for a few dozen connection cycles. When attaching it to your module, use a wooden stick or a specialized U.FL insertion tool to apply straight downward pressure. You should feel a distinct "click." Never pull the connector by the wire to remove it; always use fine-point tweezers to lift the metal head.

  • Strain Relief: Since the cable is very thin (1.13mm), it can snap if pulled. Once connected, use a tiny drop of hot glue or a piece of Kapton tape near the U.FL connector to act as a strain relief, ensuring that external tugs on the SMA end don't rip the U.FL connector off your PCB.

  • Panel Hole Size: To mount the SMA Female bulkhead, you will need to drill a 6.5mm hole in your enclosure. Ensure the surface is flat so the washer can create a proper seal.

  • Signal Loss: At 2.4GHz, every centimeter of cable introduces a small amount of signal loss. 10cm is the "sweet spot" for most handheld projects, providing enough length to move around without significantly degrading the signal strength.
