Product Description

The LED Traffic Light Signal Module is a compact, ready-to-use breakout board designed to simulate a real-world traffic signaling system. It features three high-brightness 10mm LEDs (Red, Yellow, and Green) arranged vertically on a slim PCB. Unlike individual LEDs, this module integrates current-limiting resistors, allowing it to be connected directly to a 5V microcontroller without additional components. It is the perfect educational tool for teaching logic states, timing sequences, and smart city infrastructure prototypes.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Coding Logic: Since this is a Common Cathode module, sending a HIGH signal (5V) from your Arduino pin will turn the LED ON, and sending a LOW signal (0V) will turn it OFF.

  • Smart Traffic Prototype: Combine this module with an Ultrasonic Sensor. Program the "Red" light to turn on when a vehicle (object) is detected within a specific distance, and "Green" when the path is clear.

  • Current Efficiency: Each LED consumes approximately 15-20mA. If you are running multiple modules simultaneously from a single Arduino board, ensure your total current draw does not exceed the board's regulator limits.

  • Visual Aid: For classroom projects, these are much better than individual LEDs because the vertical PCB layout clearly resembles a real traffic post, making it easier for students to visualize the project.
