Product Description The 8mm Red Straw Hat LED is a high-efficiency light source designed for superior wide-area signaling and illumination. Featuring a specialized low-profile "Straw Hat" lens, this LED disperses light across a broad 120-degree field, eliminating the narrow "spotlight" effect of traditional round-top LEDs. The crystal-clear epoxy housing ensures maximum light transmission and a sharp, modern look. These LEDs are the industry standard for automotive brake light modifications, emergency indicators, alarm systems, and custom robotics where a high-visibility red flood effect is required.

  • Voltage Warning: Note that Red LEDs have a lower forward voltage (1.8V – 2.2V) compared to blue or white LEDs. When using a 5V source (like an Arduino), you must use a higher value resistor, typically 220Ω to 330Ω, to prevent the LED from burning out.

  • Control Panel Uniformity: Because of the wide 120° beam, these are the best choice for "Emergency Stop" or "System Error" indicators. They ensure the red light is visible even if the operator is looking at the panel from a side angle.

  • Diffused Signage: These are perfect for DIY light boxes. Because the light spreads out so quickly, you don't need a thick space between the LED and the front acrylic to get a solid, non-pixelated look.
