Prototyping & Engineering Tips (Robogears Exclusive)

  • Programming Requirement: The ESP32-CAM does not have a built-in USB-to-Serial converter. At your Pimpri facility, you will need an FTDI Basic Programmer (set to 3.3V) to upload code.

  • Power Stability: This module can be power-hungry during WiFi transmission and image capture. Always use a stable 5V 2A power source connected to the 5V pin. Powering it solely through a laptop's USB port via an FTDI adapter often results in brownouts or "Camera Probe Failed" errors.

  • Boot Mode: To upload code, you must short GPIO 0 to GND before powering or resetting the board. Once the code is uploaded, remove the jumper and reset the board to run your program.

  • PSRAM Awareness: When using high-resolution JPEG modes, ensure your code is configured to use the external 4MB PSRAM; otherwise, the board will crash due to memory limitations.
