Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Indicator Logic: Yellow LEDs typically operate at a lower voltage (2.0V – 2.4V) than blue or white versions. When powering from an Arduino (5V), we recommend a 220Ω to 330Ω resistor for a standard indicator brightness.

  • Battery-Powered Use: These LEDs pair perfectly with 3.7V Lithium-Ion batteries. Because the voltage is close, you only need a 100Ω to 150Ω resistor to safely limit the current while maintaining a clear amber glow.

  • Visual Hierarchy: Use yellow LEDs for "non-critical" alerts, such as "Sensor Calibrating" or "Wi-Fi Connecting," to help users understand the state of your robot at a glance.

  • Panel Mounting: If you are building a custom chassis, use a 5mm LED plastic holder to secure these into your panel. The diffused lens is much better for panels because it provides a steady glow that is visible even when viewed from the side.
