  • Polarity Verification: CRITICAL: DC fans are polarity sensitive. The Red wire is Positive (+) and the Black wire is Negative (-). While many fans have internal diode protection, connecting them backward will result in the fan not spinning.

  • Airflow Direction: Every fan has small arrows embossed on the side of the plastic frame. One arrow shows the Blade Rotation, and the other shows the Airflow Direction. Generally, air flows from the "open" side toward the side with the motor support struts and label.

  • The Intake vs. Exhaust Strategy: For the most effective cooling in a closed box, place the fan as an Exhaust (blowing hot air out) near the top of the enclosure. Natural convection moves heat upward, so exhausting from the top creates a vacuum that pulls cooler air in from bottom vents.

  • Speed Control with PWM: If the fan is too loud for your application, you can control its speed using a MOSFET (like IRF540N) and an Arduino. By applying a PWM signal to the MOSFET, you can vary the effective voltage to the fan, allowing for "Silent" or "Turbo" modes based on temperature sensor readings.

  • Mounting & Dust: To prevent the internal bearings from clogging with dust, we strongly recommend installing a PVC Dust Filter or a 80mm Finger Guard. Dust buildup is the primary cause of fan "whining" and eventual motor failure.
