  • Direct LED Powering: Because a 4V battery sits close to the forward voltage of many high-power LEDs, you can often drive LEDs using only a small current-limiting resistor ($1\Omega$ to $10\Omega$), making it a very efficient choice for custom lighting projects.

  • Charging Caution: These batteries are sensitive to overcharging. Do not use a standard 5V USB charger directly. Use a dedicated 4V SLA charging circuit or a regulated power supply limited to 4.5V–4.7V to prevent the battery from swelling or venting.

  • The "Dead Battery" Fix: If your 4V battery has been sitting for months and won't charge, it may have "sulfated." Try charging it at a very low current (e.g., 50mA) for 24 hours to see if the chemistry reacts. If it reads 0V after a day of charging, the internal plates are likely damaged.
