Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Voltage Management: White LEDs require a higher forward voltage (3.0V – 3.4V) than red or yellow versions. When powering from an Arduino (5V), we recommend a 150Ω to 220Ω resistor. Use 150Ω for maximum light output or 220Ω for better power efficiency.

  • 3.7V Battery Integration: These LEDs are a perfect match for 3.7V Lithium-Ion batteries. Since the battery can reach 4.2V when full, use a 47Ω resistor to protect the internal chip while maintaining a brilliant white glow.

  • Mini Flashlight Build: Because of the narrow 20° beam, you can wire 3 or 4 of these in parallel (each with its own resistor) to create a highly effective, low-power DIY emergency flashlight.

  • The "Spotlight" Advantage: If you need a soft, ambient indicator, choose our diffused white version. If you need a beam that can cut through the dark or signal across a room, this water-clear version is the one.
