The DS3231 is a low-cost, extremely accurate I2C real-time clock (RTC) with an integrated temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) and crystal. Unlike standard RTC modules, the DS3231 incorporates the resonant crystal inside the chip itself and adjusts for frequency drift caused by temperature changes, maintaining an accuracy of ±2 minutes per year. This module also features an integrated AT24C32 32K-bit EEPROM for non-volatile data storage. It is the gold standard for time-critical applications such as data loggers, industrial timers, and attendance systems where high-precision timekeeping is required even during primary power loss.
