  • The 24-Hour "Burn-In": At our Pimpri workshop, we always emphasize a 24-hour preheat period for new MQ-4 sensors. This process stabilizes the sensing element for much more accurate PPM readings.

  • Strategic Placement: Methane is lighter than air. For effective CNG leak detection, mount the MQ-4 near the ceiling or the highest point of the room, as the gas will rise rapidly.

  • Heater Awareness: It is normal for the sensor to feel warm during operation. The internal heater is required to facilitate the chemical reaction between the methane gas and the SnO2 layer.

  • Power Supply Tip: The heater draws approximately 150mA. If you are using multiple MQ sensors, avoid powering them directly from an Arduino's 5V pin to prevent voltage drops; use an external regulated 5V power supply.
