Product Description & Technical Details

Product Description The 400-Point Solderless Breadboard (often referred to as a "half-size" breadboard) is the fundamental tool for building and testing electronic circuits without the need for soldering. It features a central grid divided by a middle notch, perfect for mounting Dual In-line Package (DIP) ICs, such as the ATmega328P or shift registers. Along the edges, it includes two pairs of power rails (red and blue) for convenient distribution of VCC and GND. At Robogears, we recommend this specific size for most medium-scale projects because it offers plenty of space while remaining compact enough to fit onto mobile robot chassis.

Key Highlights

  • Reusable and Non-Destructive: Components can be pushed into the holes and pulled out repeatedly, making it ideal for prototyping and education.

  • Standard 0.1" Pitch: The hole spacing is exactly 2.54mm, which is the universal standard for headers, ICs, and most electronic modules.

  • Modular Design: Features interlocking "tongue and groove" tabs on the sides, allowing you to snap multiple breadboards together to create a larger workspace.

  • Self-Adhesive Backing: Comes with a peel-off adhesive foam on the bottom, allowing you to permanently mount the breadboard onto a project plate or robot body.

  • High-Quality Contacts: Uses phosphor bronze nickel-plated spring clips that ensure low contact resistance and a firm grip on component leads.

Technical Specifications

  • Current Rating: 3A to 5A (Max)

  • Insulation Resistance: 1000 M$\Omega$ at 500V DC

  • Dielectric Strength: 500V AC for 1 minute

  • Operating Temperature: -20°C to +80°C

  • Dimensions: 82mm x 55mm x 10mm

Installation Tip from Robogears The central notch (trough) is designed specifically to keep the pins of an Integrated Circuit (IC) separate; never place an IC on just one side of the notch, or you will short-circuit its pins. When using the power rails, keep in mind that on some versions of this breadboard, the rails are split in the middle—always check with a multimeter if you have continuous power across the entire length. For the best experience, use Pre-cut Breadboard Jumper Wires to keep your circuit flat and easy to troubleshoot.
