Product Description & Technical Details
Product Description
The 12V DC Electric Cabinet Lock is a robust electromagnetic solenoid actuator designed for secure automated locking. It operates on a simple "fail-secure" mechanism: when the power is OFF, the spring-loaded bolt is extended (Locked); when 12V is applied, the solenoid retracts the bolt (Unlocked). Its low-profile, slim design makes it ideal for narrow spaces where traditional electromagnetic locks won't fit. At Robogears, we recommend this lock for building smart storage lockers, DIY parcel boxes, automated cabinet doors, and hidden drawers.
Key Highlights
Instant Response: The solenoid retracts the bolt immediately upon receiving power, allowing for fast-access electronic opening.
Compact and Versatile: The slim metal body is designed for surface mounting inside furniture, cabinets, or metal enclosures.
Adjustable Bolt Orientation: The lock tongue (bolt) can be rotated by 90, 180, or 270 degrees by removing a small internal clip, allowing it to work with left-opening, right-opening, or sliding doors.
Low Power Consumption: Only draws significant power during the short duration required to unlock, making it efficient for systems with multiple locks.
High Durability: Made of high-quality anti-rust materials, the internal mechanism is designed for thousands of duty cycles.

Installation Tip from Robogears
This is a solenoid, which is an inductive load. To control it with a microcontroller like an Arduino, you must use a 12V Relay Module or a high-current MOSFET. Crucially, always install a flyback diode (like 1N4007) in parallel with the lock wires (pointing toward the positive) to prevent voltage spikes from damaging your electronics. Warning: Do not leave the power ON for more than a few seconds at a time; continuous power will cause the solenoid coil to overheat and eventually burn out.
