Product Description: The SIM800L GPRS GSM Module is one of the smallest cellular communication boards available, making it a cornerstone for the IoT and remote monitoring projects at Robogears Pvt Ltd. This module allows your microcontrollers (like Arduino, ESP32, or STM32) to send and receive SMS, make voice calls, and connect to the internet via GPRS. Its ultra-compact form factor is specifically designed for space-constrained applications such as GPS trackers, remote weather stations, and cellular-controlled robots. The board comes with a spring antenna and features a standard TTL serial interface for easy integration.

Prototyping & Installation Tip (The Power Secret)

Crucial Power Requirement: The most common reason for SIM800L failure at the prototyping stage is insufficient power.

  1. Voltage Range: The module strictly requires 3.7V to 4.2V. Supplying 5V directly from an Arduino will likely damage the module.

  2. Current Spikes: During network handshake, the module draws up to 2 Amperes. A standard USB port or small 9V battery cannot provide this, causing the module to reboot.

  3. The Robogears Solution: Use a high-quality 3.7V Li-ion battery (like an 18650) or an LM2596 Buck Converter set to 4.0V to power the VCC pin independently.

Logic Level Warning: If using a 5V Arduino, use a simple voltage divider (1kΩ and 2kΩ resistors) on the Arduino's TX line to drop the signal to 3.3V before it reaches the SIM800L RX pin to prevent long-term damage.
