Product Description & Technical Details

Product Description The DHT11 is one of the most popular composite sensors for measuring temperature and humidity in electronics prototyping. It features a calibrated digital signal output, ensuring high stability and excellent long-term reliability. The sensor includes a resistive-type humidity measurement component and an NTC temperature measurement component, connected to a high-performance 8-bit microcontroller. This specific module version comes pre-mounted on a breakout board with a built-in pull-up resistor and power indicator LED, making it much easier to connect than the raw 4-pin sensor.

Key Highlights

  • Digital Calibration: Every DHT11 sensor is strictly calibrated in a laboratory, and the calibration coefficients are stored in internal OTP memory for accurate signal processing.

  • Single-Wire Interface: Uses a unique single-bus protocol to transmit data, which saves I/O pins on your microcontroller.

  • Long Transmission Range: Capable of transmitting signal data up to 20 meters, allowing the sensor to be placed away from the main control board.

  • Breakout Board Convenience: Unlike the raw sensor, this module includes the necessary filtering capacitor and pull-up resistor, allowing you to plug it directly into a breadboard or use jumper wires.

  • Low Power Consumption: Its extremely low current draw makes it ideal for battery-powered IoT weather stations and indoor climate monitoring.

Installation Tip from Robogears The DHT11 is a "slow" sensor. You cannot request data from it more than once every 2 seconds; attempting to read it faster will result in stale data or checksum errors. For Arduino users, the "DHT sensor library" by Adafruit is the most reliable software choice. When wiring, ensure your connections are secure, as the single-bus protocol is sensitive to timing. For more demanding environments like high-precision incubators, we suggest upgrading to the DHT22, but for general room monitoring, the DHT11 is the most cost-effective choice.
