Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears
The "Leverage" Secret: Because these magnets are so strong, they are very difficult to pull apart vertically. Always slide them sideways to separate them.
Secure Mounting: For permanent installations, use a high-bond epoxy. The smooth nickel coating can be slippery, so lightly scuffing the magnet's surface with sandpaper can improve glue adhesion.
Impact Warning: Neodymium is essentially a "metallic ceramic" and is extremely brittle. If you allow two blocks to snap together from a distance, they will likely shatter. Always handle with a firm grip and use a non-magnetic spacer (like wood or plastic) when storing them.
DIY Tool Storage: These blocks are powerful enough to hold heavy wrenches or pliers. Glue a row of them inside a tool cabinet to create a high-strength magnetic organizer.
