Product Description & Technical Details
Product Description:
The DHT22 (also known as AM2302) is the high-performance big brother to the DHT11. It is a capacitive humidity sensing digital signal module that provides much higher accuracy and a wider measurement range. While the DHT11 is limited to whole-number readings, the DHT22 provides data with decimal precision, making it the superior choice for professional climate control. At Robogears, we recommend the DHT22 for projects requiring strict environmental monitoring, such as egg incubators, greenhouse automation, and high-fidelity weather stations.
Key Highlights
Superior Accuracy: Offers a significantly lower margin of error (±0.5°C and ±2% RH) compared to standard entry-level sensors.
Full Range Sensing: Capable of measuring 0–100% humidity and sub-zero temperatures down to -40°C, making it suitable for outdoor use and refrigeration monitoring.
Decimal Data Output: Provides readings with 0.1 resolution, allowing for much finer control in automation logic (e.g., turning on a heater at 24.5°C).
Ready-to-Use Module: This version is mounted on a PCB that includes a pull-up resistor and filtering capacitor, enabling a direct "Plug-and-Play" connection to your microcontroller.
Excellent Stability: Features a high-quality capacitive element and a high-precision NTC thermistor for long-term reliability without frequent recalibration.

Installation Tip from Robogears:
Like the DHT11, the DHT22 uses a single-bus protocol and requires a 2-second delay between readings. When writing your code, make sure to select the DHT22 or AM2302 sensor type in your library settings (such as the Adafruit DHT library). Because the DHT22 is more sensitive, avoid touching the white mesh part of the sensor, as skin oils can affect the humidity readings. For the most stable results in humid environments like an incubator, mount the sensor away from direct water droplets or mist spray.
