Product Description

The Nano IO Shield is engineered to transform the compact Arduino Nano into a powerful prototyping hub. The board features a dedicated DC Power Jack, allowing you to power your Nano and all connected peripherals from an external battery or wall adapter, bypassing the current limitations of a computer's USB port. It specifically includes dedicated headers for I2C and Serial communication, making it incredibly easy to add LCD displays, Bluetooth modules, or GPS sensors. The high-quality PCB includes four mounting holes, making it easy to secure your project inside a permanent chassis.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Servo Powering: If you are connecting more than two micro servos (like the SG90), do not rely on the Nano's USB power. Plug a 7.4V Li-ion battery or 9V adapter into the DC Jack of this shield. This provides the high current needed for motors without causing the Nano to reboot.

  • 3.3V vs 5V: While the shield provides 3.3V pins, the logic levels of the Nano are still 5V. If you are connecting a 3.3V sensor (like a BMP280 or some SD card modules), verify if the sensor is "5V tolerant" or use a logic level shifter to be safe.

  • I2C Pull-ups: If your I2C devices are not being detected, check if they have built-in pull-up resistors. This shield provides the physical connection, but it does not add extra pull-up resistors to the SDA/SCL lines.

  • Shield Seating: Ensure the Nano is plugged into the shield in the correct orientation. The USB port of the Nano should point toward the edge of the shield (usually near the DC jack) as indicated by the silkscreen outline.
