The VL53L0X is a revolutionary "Time-of-Flight" (ToF) ranging system integrated into a compact module. Unlike standard infrared sensors that estimate distance based on the amount of reflected light (which changes depending on the color and material of the object), the VL53L0X acts like a tiny LiDAR. It measures the exact time it takes for an invisible laser pulse to travel to the target and back. This results in precise, absolute distance measurements that are virtually independent of the target's reflectivity or ambient light conditions. It is widely used for drone landing assistance, liquid level sensing, and touchless gesture recognition.

Prototyping & Installation Tip
The VL53L0X is an I2C device. To use multiple sensors on the same bus, you must use the XSHUT (Shutdown) pin to change the I2C address of each sensor during your code’s setup phase. Important: The sensor often comes with a tiny orange or clear protective film on the lens. You must remove this film before operation, or your readings will be stuck at a very low value. For software, the VL53L0X library by Pololu or the Adafruit VL53L0X library are the standard choices for Arduino.
