Product Description

The 2.8" SPI Display is engineered for versatility and ease of use. It utilizes the popular ILI9341 driver IC, which is widely supported by open-source libraries. The module includes an onboard voltage regulator (3.3V LDO) and level shifters, making it safely compatible with both 3.3V and 5V logic systems. It also features a built-in MicroSD card socket, perfect for loading bitmap images, icons, or logging data directly from the display interface.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Library Recommendation: For the fastest performance and easiest setup, use the Adafruit_ILI9341 and Adafruit_GFX libraries. If you are using an ESP32 or ESP8266, the TFT_eSPI library is highly recommended as it is optimized for high-speed SPI DMA.

  • Touch Calibration: Resistive screens require a one-time calibration to match the touch coordinates with the LCD pixels. Use a "Touch Calibration" sketch to find your screen's specific min/max values.

  • Wiring Efficiency: Since the LCD, Touch Controller, and SD Card all use SPI, they can share the same MOSI, MISO, and SCK pins. You only need separate CS (Chip Select) pins for each of the three components.

  • Logic Levels: Even though the module has a regulator, it is best practice to power it with a stable 5V but keep the SPI data lines at 3.3V if using an ESP32. If using a 5V Arduino, the onboard level shifters will handle the translation automatically.
