Product Description & Technical Details
Product Description
The ESP32-CAM (Base Board) is a highly capable and affordable IoT development platform designed for vision-based applications. While this specific listing includes the base board without the camera lens, it remains the core powerhouse for any AIoT project. It features the ESP32-S module with integrated WiFi and Bluetooth, a built-in MicroSD card slot for local storage of images/data, and an ultra-bright onboard LED for flash or illumination. It is an ideal replacement or spare board for developers who already own compatible camera modules like the OV2640. At Robogears, we recommend this board for building low-cost surveillance systems, QR code scanners, or face recognition gateways.
Key Highlights
Dual-Core Processing Power: Runs at up to 160MHz (extendable to 240MHz), providing enough overhead to handle JPEG encoding and wireless transmission simultaneously.
Integrated PSRAM: Includes 4MB of external PSRAM, which is essential for capturing and buffering high-resolution images that exceed the internal RAM capacity.
Built-in Storage: The onboard MicroSD slot allows for offline logging, image capture storage, or serving web files directly from the module.
Rich Wireless Stack: Full 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Dual-mode Bluetooth allow the board to act as a standalone web server or a bridge to other IoT devices.
Ultra-Bright Flash: Includes a dedicated white LED that can be triggered via code to illuminate dark environments for better image quality.

Installation Tip from Robogears
Since the ESP32-CAM does not have a built-in USB-to-Serial chip, you will need an external FTDI or CP2102 USB-to-TTL Adapter to upload code. To enter "Programming Mode," you must short the GPIO 0 pin to GND before powering up or resetting the board. Ensure your power supply provides at least 5V 2A, as the board can experience high current spikes when the WiFi and Flash LED are active simultaneously. If your board keeps resetting, a lack of adequate current is the most likely cause.
Note: This product does NOT include the OV2640 camera module. It is the development board only. The product images provided are for illustration purposes only.
