  • Industrial RS232 Interface: Features a standard DB9 connector with onboard voltage level shifters (MAX232 equivalent), making it safe for ±12V serial communication.

Prototyping & Engineering Tips (Robogears Exclusive)

  • Power Supply Selection: At our Pimpri workshop, we’ve found that the SIM800A can draw sudden current bursts of up to 2A during transmission. Always use a high-quality 12V 2A or 5V 2A DC Adapter. Under-powering is the #1 cause of the module failing to register on the network.

  • The "Jio" Limitation: Please remember that the SIM800A is a 2G-only module. It will work perfectly with Airtel, Vi, and BSNL in India, but it is not compatible with Jio, which is a 4G-only network.

  • RS232 vs TTL: You can only use one interface at a time for data. Use the DB9 port for PC/PLC connection and the TTL pins for Arduino/ESP32 connection.

  • Network LED Logic:

    • Fast Blink (1s): Searching for network.

    • Slow Blink (3s): Registered and ready to use.

    • Very Fast Blink: GPRS data active.
