Technical Product Description
The A4988 Stepper Motor Driver – Standard Quality is a compact and reliable motor driver designed to control bipolar stepper motors with precise microstepping capability. Based on the popular A4988 driver IC from Allegro Microsystems, this module enables up to 1/16 microstepping, allowing smooth and highly accurate motion control — ideal for CNC machines, 3D printers, robotics, automated positioning systems, and precision motion projects.
With a wide operating voltage range of 8V to 35V DC and peak output current of up to 2A per phase (with adequate heat dissipation), the A4988 provides flexible control for a variety of stepper motors used in small to medium mechatronics applications. The module features STEP and DIR control inputs that interface easily with popular microcontrollers such as Arduino, ESP32, STM32, Raspberry Pi, and more.
Advanced onboard protection includes over-current limiting, short-circuit protection, and thermal shutdown, ensuring safe and reliable operation even during extended use. The microstepping pins (MS1–MS3) allow automatic setting of full, half, quarter, eighth, and sixteenth stepping modes, configurable via jumper pins on the breakout board.
This stepper motor driver is widely used by hobbyists, engineers, and makers for projects requiring smooth stepping performance, fine motion resolution, and easy microcontroller interfacing.
