  • The Decoupling Rule: CRITICAL: For digital circuits (Arduino, ESP32, etc.), place one 0.1uF capacitor as close as possible to the VCC and GND pins of every IC on your board. This acts as a local energy reservoir, preventing the "voltage sag" that occurs when an IC switches states rapidly.

  • Code Translation: The number "104" is the standard EIA code. The first two digits (10) are the value, and the third digit (4) is the multiplier (104). This equals 100,000 picofarads (pF), which is 100 nanofarads (nF) or 0.1 microfarads (uF).

  • High-Frequency Filtering: While electrolytic capacitors are good for low-frequency smoothing, they have high internal inductance. Ceramic capacitors have very low inductance, making them much better at filtering out the high-frequency "ringing" generated by switching power supplies or motors.
