Product Description The 2-Slot 18650 Battery Holder is a versatile power enclosure designed to hold two standard lithium-ion cells in a series configuration. This setup combines the voltage of two 3.7V cells to provide a 7.4V nominal (8.4V peak) output, making it an excellent compact power source for Arduino projects, motor drivers, and small robotic platforms. Its open-frame design ensures easy battery replacement and efficient cooling during use, while the nickel-plated springs maintain a consistent electrical contact.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • BMS Recommendation: When using 18650 cells in series, we recommend using a 2S BMS (Battery Management System) to protect against over-discharge. Dropping below 6V (3V per cell) can significantly shorten the life of your lithium batteries.

  • Arduino Powering: 7.4V is the "sweet spot" for powering an Arduino through the DC jack. It is high enough for the onboard regulator to provide a stable 5V, but low enough to prevent the regulator from overheating.

  • Polarity Check: Always follow the polarity markings (+/-) embossed on the bottom of the plastic holder. Inserting a battery backward in a series string can cause a short circuit across the other cell.

  • Mounting Advice: Use M3 countersunk screws or double-sided foam tape to secure the holder to your chassis. If your project involves high-speed movement, consider adding a rubber band or Velcro strap over the cells for extra security.
