Product Description & Technical Details

Product Description The 2 x 18650 Battery Holder is a simple yet essential component for powering portable electronics. This open-frame "without cover" design allows for quick battery swapping and excellent heat dissipation during high-discharge use. It is designed to hold two standard 18650 Lithium-ion cells in series, combining their voltages to provide a nominal 7.4V (up to 8.4V at full charge). This makes it the perfect power source for small robots, motor drivers, and high-power LED projects that require more voltage than a standard USB port can provide.

Key Highlights

  • Series Wiring: Pre-wired to connect two 3.7V cells in series, delivering the voltage required by most motor drivers (like the L298N) and 7.4V compatible microcontrollers.

  • Open Top Design: The lack of a cover makes it easy to monitor battery temperature and swap cells instantly without needing a screwdriver.

  • Robust Spring Contacts: Features high-quality nickel-plated steel springs that ensure a tight grip on the batteries, preventing power loss due to vibration.

  • Easy Mounting: The base features countersunk mounting holes, allowing you to screw the holder directly onto a robot chassis or inside a project box.

  • Standard Wire Leads: Comes with pre-tinned 24 AWG red (Positive) and black (Negative) wires for quick soldering or connection to terminal blocks.

Technical Specifications

  • Nominal Output: 7.4V DC

  • Peak Output: 8.4V DC (Fully Charged)

  • Body Dimensions: ~75mm x 40mm x 18mm

  • Wire Color Code: Red (+), Black (-)

  • Spring Material: 0.6mm Nickel-plated Steel

Installation Tip from Robogears Always pay close attention to the polarity markings (+/-) embossed at the bottom of the holder. Inserting 18650 cells backward can cause immediate damage to your electronics or the battery itself. Because Lithium-ion batteries can provide high current, we recommend adding an on/off toggle switch and an inline fuse between the holder and your circuit for added safety. This holder is compatible with both "Button Top" and "Flat Top" 18650 cells.
