Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • The Arduino "VIN" Match: This battery is the ideal power source for an Arduino Uno. When plugged into the DC jack, the onboard regulator drops the 11.1V–12.6V down to a stable 5V. This is much more efficient and lasts longer than a standard 9V alkaline battery.

  • Motor Driver Synergy: If you are using an L298N or L293D motor driver, you can plug this battery into the driver's power input. The 11.1V provides excellent torque and speed for standard 12V BO motors and yellow hobby motors.

  • Charging Awareness: To charge this pack, you must use a dedicated 12.6V Li-ion charger. Do not use a standard 12V DC power adapter, as it lacks the CC/CV (Constant Current/Constant Voltage) charging profile required for lithium cells.

  • BMS Cut-off: If your robot suddenly stops working, the internal BMS has likely tripped its "Low Voltage Cut-off" (usually around 9V total). Immediately recharge the battery; leaving a Li-ion pack in a fully discharged state can damage the cells.
