Product Description

The 0.96" OLED Module is built around the popular SSD1306 driver, which is natively supported by most electronics libraries. It features 8,192 individually controlled pixels, providing sharp graphics and clear text despite its small footprint. The self-illuminating nature of OLEDs means that the display remains perfectly readable even in dark environments. Its 4-pin interface (VCC, GND, SCL, SDA) simplifies wiring, making it an excellent choice for headers-only or breadboard-based prototyping.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Correct I2C Address: If your code fails to initialize the display, verify the I2C address using a scanner sketch. While 0x3C is standard, some modules may be hardwired to 0x3D.

  • Protecting the Glass: The thin glass panel is very fragile. When installing it into a project, use M2 nylon spacers to ensure the glass does not touch the enclosure or PCB surface.

  • Burn-In Prevention: To extend the lifespan of the OLED pixels, implement a software timeout that dims or turns off the display when no user interaction is detected for several minutes.

  • Wiring on Different Boards:

    • Arduino Uno: Connect SDA to A4 and SCL to A5.

    • ESP32: Connect SDA to GPIO 21 and SCL to GPIO 22.

    • Raspberry Pi: Connect to GPIO 2 (SDA) and GPIO 3 (SCL).
