Product Description

The Uno R3 DIP is designed for durability and flexibility. Unlike the SMD version where the chip is permanently soldered, the DIP version allows you to swap the microcontroller chip into a standalone PCB once your project is finalized. It includes everything needed to support the microcontroller: a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, USB connection, power jack, ICSP header, and a reset button. It can be powered directly via a USB cable or through an external AC-to-DC adapter.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • The "DIP Advantage": If you're a beginner, always choose the DIP version. If you accidentally short a pin and burn the chip, you can buy a replacement ATmega328P IC for a few dollars rather than replacing the entire board.

  • Power Regulation: While the board can handle up to 20V, we strongly recommend staying between 7V and 12V. At higher voltages, the onboard regulator can become extremely hot, which may lead to thermal shutdown.

  • Pin Protection: Each I/O pin can provide up to 40mA of current, but for long-term reliability, it’s best to keep the draw under 20mA. Use a transistor or a relay module if you need to control high-power components like motors.

  • Shield Alignment: When plugging in shields, ensure the pins are perfectly aligned. Misalignment can cause short circuits between the 5V and Ground rails, potentially damaging both the shield and the Uno.
