Product Description

The IR Receiver Module is a "plug-and-play" solution for wireless communication. The onboard circuitry is designed to convert high-frequency infrared pulses into clean, logic-level digital signals that a microcontroller can easily interpret. The module typically features a built-in LED that flashes when a signal is detected, providing immediate visual feedback during debugging. Its 3-pin interface (VCC, GND, and Signal) is fully compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and ESP32, requiring no external resistors or capacitors for basic operation.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • The "Active Low" Logic: Remember that the signal pin is Active Low. This means your code should look for a "LOW" pulse to begin decoding the incoming data packet.

  • Library Support: For Arduino users, the IRremote library is highly recommended. It handles the complex timing required to distinguish between different buttons on a remote and provides the Hex codes (e.g., 0xFF30CF) for easy logic implementation.

  • Power Stability: IR receivers are sensitive to power supply noise. If your receiver is giving erratic data while motors are running, add a 100Ω resistor in series with VCC and a 4.7µF capacitor between VCC and GND right at the module pins to "clean" the power.

  • Testing without a Remote: If you don't have an IR remote handy, you can test the receiver using a standard 940nm IR LED and another Arduino. Simply program the second Arduino to toggle the IR LED at a 38kHz frequency using a 50% duty cycle.
