The Triple 2030 2.1 Board is engineered for simplicity and durability. It features an onboard bridge rectifier and filter capacitors, allowing it to be powered directly from a 12-0-12 center-tapped transformer. A key feature is the integrated 7805 voltage regulator, which provides a stable 5V DC output specifically to power external Bluetooth modules or MP3 USB decoder boards. The analog nature of the TDA2030A chip provides a warm sound profile that is highly favored for desktop speakers and small TV soundbars.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Transformer Selection: For the best performance, use a high-quality copper-wound 12-0-12V 3A transformer. Using a lower current transformer (like 1A) will cause the bass to distort or the audio to "cut out" at high volumes.

  • Adding Bluetooth: Connect the 5V and GND from the onboard 7805 regulator to your Bluetooth module's power input. Then, connect the audio output of the Bluetooth module to the board's input header.

  • Grounding for Hum: To prevent the common "60Hz hum," ensure the metal bodies of the potentiometers are grounded to the circuit's main ground or the metal chassis of your speaker box.

  • Heat Management: If you find the heatsinks getting too hot to touch, ensure your enclosure has ventilation slots. Class AB amplifiers like the TDA2030 are less efficient than Class D and naturally generate more heat.
