Specifically designed for 5050 and 3528 RGB strips, this controller uses a common anode (+) configuration to drive the Red, Green, and Blue channels. The included 24-key infrared remote provides a wide range of customization, allowing you to switch between 16 vibrant static colors, adjust brightness levels, and toggle between four dynamic lighting modes (Flash, Strobe, Fade, Smooth). Its compact design and standard 4-pin interface make it the industry-standard choice for DIY home decoration, under-cabinet lighting, and PC case modding projects.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • 9V Battery Use: A 9V battery will not work effectively. While it may light the LEDs dimly, it cannot provide the 12V required for full color accuracy or the high current needed for a full strip. Use a 12V 2A or 5A DC Power Adapter.

  • 18650 Cell: To power this with 18650s, you must use a 3S configuration (11.1V - 12.6V). A single cell (3.7V) or 2S (7.4V) will not trigger the 12V control logic. Use a 3S BMS to protect your cells while powering the controller.

  • IC & Capacitor Tip: If the remote seems unresponsive, ensure the IR receiver is not blocked by metal. To stabilize long LED runs, add a 1000uF 25V Capacitor at the 12V DC input jack to prevent voltage drops during rapid color flashing (Strobe mode).
