The 9-50V 2000W 40A DC PWM Motor Speed Controller is an industrial-grade high-power regulator designed for demanding DC motor applications. Utilizing Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), this controller provides smooth, flicker-free speed adjustment for brushed motors without the significant torque loss associated with linear voltage dropping. It features a heavy-duty PCB with extra-thick copper traces and ten high-power MOSFETs, allowing it to handle massive current loads up to 40A. Housed in a protective ventilated metal casing, it is the ideal choice for electric vehicle speed control, industrial conveyor belts, high-power LED dimming, and DC heater regulation.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • The "Total Wattage" Calculation: To ensure longevity, calculate your wattage based on your input voltage ($W = V \times I$). For example, at 12V, the maximum safe power is 480W; at 50V, it reaches the full 2000W. Never exceed the 40A current limit regardless of the voltage.

  • High-Current Wiring: At 40A, standard wires will act as heaters. Use 8AWG or 10AWG high-strand silicone wires. Ensure all screw terminal connections are extremely tight; a loose connection at 40A will generate enough heat to melt the plastic terminal block.

  • Inductive Load Protection: When controlling large motors, the sudden "off" cycle of PWM can generate massive back-EMF. While the board has internal protection, adding a high-current Schottky Diode (Freewheeling Diode) across the motor terminals is highly recommended for industrial reliability.

  • External Cooling: If the controller is mounted inside a sealed electrical cabinet and running at more than 25A continuously, we strongly recommend adding a dedicated 12V cooling fan to prevent thermal throttling of the MOSFETs.

  • Input Power Quality: Do not use this controller with "dirty" power sources or unregulated transformers. A stable DC battery or a high-quality SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) is required for the PWM logic to function correctly.
