The 3S LED Capacity Indicator is a compact, plug-and-play module designed for seamless integration into portable power projects. It uses an intelligent voltage detection circuit to estimate the remaining energy in your battery pack. The display logic is simple: the first LED lights up at 3.1V, the second at 6.3V, the third at 9.4V, and the fourth at a full 12.6V. This provides a reliable, non-intrusive way to ensure your devices—like drones, e-bikes, or portable speakers—never run out of power unexpectedly.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Momentary Switch Integration: To maximize battery life, it is highly recommended to wire this module through a momentary push-button. This allows you to check the battery status only when needed rather than having the LEDs stay on constantly.

  • Voltage Sag Awareness: Be aware that the display may drop one segment while the battery is under a heavy load (like a motor starting). For the most accurate reading of true capacity, check the indicator while the device is "at rest."

  • BMS Synergy: This indicator should be wired in parallel with your 3S BMS output or directly to the battery terminals. It does not replace a BMS; it only provides the visual feedback that most protection boards lack.

  • Heat & Mounting: The module generates almost no heat, making it safe to mount against plastic or 3D-printed parts. Use a small amount of double-sided tape or hot glue on the corners of the PCB for secure mounting.
