Prototyping & Engineering Tips (Robogears Exclusive)

  • High-Current Wiring: At our Pimpri workshop, we suggest using 12AWG or 14AWG silicon wire for the P+ and P- connections. Standard thin jumper wires will melt or drop significant voltage when drawing 40A.

  • The "Zero Volt" Test: After soldering your 4 cells, if you see 0V at the output (P+/P-), connect a 16.8V charger for a few seconds. This "wakes up" the BMS from its shipping/safety lock mode.

  • Cell Matching: For best results, use four 18650 cells with the same internal resistance and capacity (mAh). If one cell is weak, the Balance function will take a very long time to equalize, or the BMS may cut off early.

  • Drill Compatibility: If your power drill "stutters" or stops immediately upon pulling the trigger, it means the motor's startup current is exceeding the 40A limit. Ensure your cells are "High Discharge" (10C or 20C rated) to support this BMS properly.
