Product Description & Technical Details

Product Description The 4x3 Matrix Membrane Keypad is a sleek and space-saving input solution for electronic systems requiring numeric data entry. This 12-button interface is organized into 4 rows and 3 columns, featuring a classic telephone-style layout. Unlike bulky mechanical buttons, this membrane switch is flexible and features a built-in adhesive layer on the back, allowing it to be mounted flush against any flat surface. It is the preferred choice for compact DIY projects like digital lockers, access control panels, and portable instruments where maintaining a slim profile is essential.

Key Highlights

  • Ultra-Slim Profile: At less than 1mm thick, it adds virtually no bulk to your project enclosure.

  • Simple I/O Mapping: Allows you to control 12 distinct inputs using only 7 pins on your microcontroller (4 for rows, 3 for columns).

  • Self-Adhesive Mounting: Simplifies the assembly process; just peel the backing and stick it onto your panel—no screws or drilling required.

  • Standard Interface: The 7-pin female connector is designed to fit standard 2.54mm (0.1") male headers, making it compatible with breadboards and most development boards.

  • Durable & Dustproof: The sealed plastic overlay protects the internal switch contacts from dust, moisture, and debris, ensuring long-term reliability in varying environments.

Technical Specifications

  • Contact Resistance: 10 to 500 Ω (Depends on lead length)

  • Insulation Resistance: 100M Ω @ 100V

  • Dielectric Strength: 250V Rms (50-60Hz 1 min)

  • Contact Bounce: ≤ 5ms

  • Dimensions: 70mm x 52mm x 0.8mm

  • Operating Life: Over 1 million operations per key

Installation Tip from Robogears To read inputs from this keypad, we recommend using the Keypad.h library for Arduino. Simply define your 4 row pins and 3 column pins in the code to begin detecting presses. Since the ribbon cable is made of flexible PET plastic, avoid repeated sharp bending near the connector base to prevent internal fractures in the silver-ink traces. When sticking the keypad to an enclosure, ensure the surface is clean and dry for maximum adhesive bond strength.

Note: This product is the 4x3 Membrane Keypad ONLY. Microcontrollers and jumper wires are sold separately. Product images are for illustration purposes only.
