Product Description & Technical Details

Product Description The 4-Channel Bi-Directional Logic Level Converter is an essential bridge for connecting electronic devices that operate at different voltage levels. Many modern sensors and microcontrollers (like ESP32, Raspberry Pi, or ARM-based boards) use 3.3V logic, while classic boards (like Arduino Uno) use 5V. Connecting these directly can damage the 3.3V components. This module safely steps down 5V signals to 3.3V and steps up 3.3V signals to 5V simultaneously across four independent channels. Because it is bi-directional and utilizes a high-speed MOSFET design, it is perfectly suited for complex communication protocols like I2C, where the data line must switch directions rapidly.

Key Highlights

  • Bi-Directional Conversion: Each of the 4 channels can pass data from high-to-low or low-to-high voltage automatically without manual switching.

  • Safe Protocol Support: Ideal for I2C communication as it includes the necessary pull-up resistors required for SDA and SCL lines.

  • Protection for Sensitive ICs: Prevents 5V overvoltage damage to 3.3V sensors, displays, and wireless modules (like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi).

  • Compact & Breadboard Ready: Small footprint with standard 2.54mm pitch allows for easy integration into prototypes and PCB designs.

  • Independent Channel Operation: Each channel works independently, allowing you to mix and match different signal types on the same module.

Technical Specifications

  • High Voltage (HV) Range: 2.8V – 6V DC

  • Low Voltage (LV) Range: 1.8V – 3.3V DC

  • Maximum Current: 150mA

  • Header Pitch: 2.54mm (Standard)

  • Logic Type: MOSFET-based (Pass-Transistor Logic)

Installation Tip from Robogears To use this module correctly, you must provide both reference voltages. Connect the higher voltage source (e.g., 5V) to the HV pin and the lower voltage source (e.g., 3.3V) to the LV pin. Both sides must share a common ground connected to the GND pins. If you only power one side, the level shifting will not occur. For high-speed SPI communication, keep your jumper wires as short as possible to minimize signal capacitance and ensure data integrity.
