It operates on the principle of diffuse reflection: the sensor emits a beam of modulated infrared light; when an object enters the detection range, the light reflects back to the receiver, triggering the output. Unlike standard IR modules, the E18-D80NK is significantly less affected by ambient light and features a threaded body for easy mounting. It is a highly reliable choice for obstacle avoidance in mobile robots, conveyor belt counting, and automated sanitary equipment.

Installation Tip The wiring for the E18-D80NK typically follows this standard: Brown (+5V), Blue (GND), and Black (Signal Output). Since it is an NPN output, you should enable the internal pull-up resistor on your microcontroller's input pin (e.g., pinMode(pin, INPUT_PULLUP) in Arduino). This ensures a stable "HIGH" signal when no obstacle is present. Note that dark-colored or matte-black objects may reduce the effective sensing range, while light-colored or reflective surfaces will maximize it.
