Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Don't Over-Tighten: When securing signal wires (like those for a GPS or Camera), avoid tightening the tie so much that it pinches the insulation. Over-tightening can damage the internal copper strands or cause signal interference.

  • Flush Cutting: After tightening, use a Side Cutter to cut the excess tail flush with the head. Leaving a sharp "tab" sticking out is a common cause of small cuts and scratches when working inside a robot chassis later.

  • The "Two-Finger" Slack: If you are using ties to secure moving parts (like wires on a 3D printer gantry), ensure there is enough slack for the full range of motion.
