Product Description
The NodeMCU V3 CH340 (often referred to as the Lolin version) is a robust and cost-effective development board designed for rapid Internet of Things (IoT) prototyping. Powered by the ESP8266 (ESP-12E) module, it features an integrated PCB antenna and a 32-bit RISC processor capable of handling complex networking tasks. Unlike the narrower V2 boards, the V3 has a slightly larger footprint which provides enhanced physical stability and better heat dissipation. It utilizes the widely supported CH340G serial chip, making it highly compatible with modern operating systems. At Robogears, we recommend this board for hobbyists and students who want a durable, easy-to-handle gateway into WiFi-enabled automation.
Key Highlights
Cost-Effective Connectivity: Provides full WiFi functionality at a budget-friendly price point, ideal for large-scale sensor networks or educational kits.
Large Form Factor (V3): The wider PCB design makes it easier to handle and mount, though it will cover most holes on a single standard breadboard.
High-Speed Serial: The CH340G IC ensures stable data transfer between the board and your computer for firmware updates and serial debugging.
Complete Software Support: Fully compatible with the Arduino IDE, MicroPython, and the native NodeMCU Lua firmware, offering a vast library of open-source projects.
Versatile Power Input: Can be powered conveniently via the Micro-USB port or through the VIN pin for projects requiring external battery or adapter power.

Installation Tip from Robogears
Because the NodeMCU V3 is wider than the V2 version, it typically covers all the holes on a standard half-size breadboard. To prototype comfortably, we recommend using two breadboards placed side-by-side or using female-to-male jumper wires. Ensure you have the CH340 drivers installed on your computer; otherwise, the board will not appear in your COM ports list. In the Arduino IDE, select "NodeMCU 1.0 (ESP-12E Module)" for the best compatibility during code uploads.
