Product Description

The PL2303HX Serial Converter provides a stable and cost-effective way to add a virtual COM port to any PC. It features a standard USB Type-A plug on one end and five male header pins on the other, allowing for direct connection via jumper wires to your target board. The module is engineered with dual voltage outputs, enabling it to power small 3.3V sensors or 5V microcontrollers directly from the USB bus. Integrated TX and RX LED indicators provide immediate visual feedback of data transmission, which is critical for identifying communication errors during the initial stages of hardware development.

  • The "Cross-Wire" Rule: When connecting this to a microcontroller, always remember that TX (Transmit) on the module connects to RX (Receive) on the MCU, and RX on the module connects to TX on the MCU. If you connect TX to TX, no data will flow.

  • Driver Warning: The PL2303HX (Revision A) chip used in these modules may require a specific older driver version (v3.2.0.0) to work correctly on Windows 10 or 11. If you see a "Code 10" error in Device Manager, it is usually a driver compatibility issue rather than a hardware fault.

  • Programming the Pro Mini: To program a Pro Mini, connect the TX, RX, VCC, and GND. Note that most PL2303HX modules do not have a DTR pin for auto-reset. You will need to manually press the Reset button on your Pro Mini the moment the Arduino IDE status changes from "Compiling" to "Uploading."

  • Common Ground: Even if you are powering your target board from an external battery, you must connect the GND pin of this module to the GND pin of your target device. Without a shared ground, the signal levels will be unstable and data will be corrupted.
