Product Description

The 150 RPM Centre Shaft motor is built around a high-quality DC motor coupled with a circular metal gearbox. The 6mm D-shaped shaft ensures that wheels, pulleys, or gears attached to it do not slip under high load. Because the gears are made of hardened metal, they can withstand the mechanical stress of sudden starts, stops, and reversals common in autonomous robotic competitions.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Motor Driver Selection: Since this motor can draw over 1 Amp when stalled, use a driver like the L298N Dual H-Bridge Module or an IBT-2 43A Driver for heavy-duty applications. Small drivers like the L293D may overheat if the robot encounters an obstacle.

  • Power Supply Tip: Always use a Li-ion or Lead Acid battery capable of high discharge. If your power supply is weak, the motor will "stutter" or reset your microcontroller (like an Arduino) due to the sudden current draw when the motor starts.

  • Wheel Alignment: When using 150 RPM motors for a 4-wheel drive robot, ensure your chassis is perfectly aligned. Because these motors have high torque, any misalignment will cause the robot to drift to one side rather than moving in a straight line.
