Prototyping & Engineering Tips (Robogears Exclusive)

  • The "Warm-up" Protocol: For accurate readings at your Pimpri workshop, the MQ-2 requires a burn-in period. New sensors should be powered for 24–48 hours initially to stabilize the chemical layer. For daily use, allow at least 60 seconds of warm-up time before trusting the data.

  • Heater Awareness: The sensor will feel warm to the touch during operation—this is normal, as the internal heater is required to facilitate the chemical reaction. Ensure your power supply can handle the ~150mA–180mA current draw.

  • Calibration Hack: To set the digital trigger, place the sensor in a "clean air" environment and turn the potentiometer until the status LED just turns off. Then, test it by briefly exposing it to a small amount of lighter gas (butane) to confirm the trigger works.

  • Safety Warning: While excellent for prototyping and monitoring, the MQ-2 should be used as a supplementary safety device. It should not be the sole safety mechanism in critical life-saving industrial systems without proper certification and redundant backups.
