Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Rotation Check: This is the CCW thread version (usually identified by a black nut). While the motor can spin in either direction based on ESC wiring, the CCW thread ensures the nut stays tight during counter-clockwise rotation.

  • ESC Selection: Pair this motor with a 20A or 30A SimonK or BLHeli ESC for the best performance. Ensure the ESC supports the cell count of your LiPo battery.

  • Propeller Balancing: Even though Emax props are high quality, always check the balance of your 1045 props before flight. Unbalanced props cause "Jello" in video footage and can wear down motor bearings over time.

  • Thrust Management: On a 3S battery, this motor is very efficient for heavy-lift drones. If moving to 4S, monitor heat levels closely as the higher voltage increases the RPM and current draw significantly.
