Product Description The USBASP is a high-performance USB-based In-Circuit Serial Programmer (ISP) designed specifically for Atmel AVR microcontrollers. It allows you to upload code and firmware directly to your AVR chips without needing a dedicated bootloader. This programmer is compact, reliable, and integrates seamlessly with common development environments like AVRDUDE, Arduino IDE, and Khazama.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Driver Installation: On Windows 10 and 11, you may need to use "Zadig" to install the correct libusb-win32 driver for the programmer to be recognized by your IDE.

  • Target Powering: If your target board has its own power supply, remember to remove the "VCC" jumper on the USBASP to avoid power conflicts between the USB port and your external supply.

  • Slow SCK Jumper: If you are working with a brand-new AVR chip (factory default 1MHz clock), you must bridge the 'Slow SCK' jumper for the first burn to ensure the programmer matches the chip's slow speed.

  • Pin Alignment: Ensure the notch on the 10-pin IDC cable matches the notch on your target board to prevent reverse polarity.
