Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Voltage Awareness: Green LEDs typically operate at a lower voltage (2.0V – 2.4V) than blue or white versions. When powering from an Arduino (5V), we recommend a 220Ω to 330Ω resistor to achieve a standard indicator brightness without overdriving the component.

  • 3.7V Battery Integration: To run these from a Li-ion or Li-Po battery, use a 100Ω to 150Ω resistor. This protects the LED as the battery voltage fluctuates between 3.0V and 4.2V.

  • Panel Mounting: Use a 5mm plastic LED bezel to mount these professionally into your robot's chassis. The diffused lens is ideal for status panels because it doesn't require the user to look directly "down the barrel" to see if the system is on.
