Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears
The "Flush Mount" Trick: This magnet is perfect for hidden latches. Drill a 6mm hole into a plastic or wooden part, drop the magnet in, and cover it with a thin layer of filler or tape for a "magical" invisible connection.
Sensor Activation: Use this cylinder to trigger Hall Effect sensors or Reed switches on rotating robot arms. Its axial magnetization provides a clean on/off signal as it passes the sensor.
Stacking Power: If you need more strength but have limited diameter, stack two of these to double the height. This increases the magnetic reach (flux density) without requiring a wider mounting hole.
Fragility Alert: Neodymium is essentially a "metallic ceramic." They are very brittle. If two magnets snap together from a distance, they can chip or shatter. Always handle with a firm grip and slide them apart rather than pulling.
