Product Description The 5mm Water Clear Green LED is engineered for applications requiring an intense, piercing point of light. Unlike diffused LEDs that provide a soft, ambient glow, this "water-clear" model features a fully transparent lens that allows the emerald green light to pass through with maximum brilliance and zero scattering. When the power is off, the LED is colorless and blends into its surroundings; when activated, it produces an incredibly bright, focused beam. It is the ideal choice for high-visibility "Ready" signals, custom decorative spotlighting, and green laser-like effects in robotics.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • High-Voltage Note: These high-brightness Green LEDs operate at a higher forward voltage (3.0V – 3.4V) than standard red or yellow LEDs. When powering from an Arduino (5V), we recommend a 150Ω to 220Ω resistor. Use 150Ω for maximum brightness or 220Ω for a cooler, longer-lasting operation.

  • 3.7V Battery Performance: These LEDs are a perfect match for 3.7V Lithium-Ion batteries. Since the battery can reach 4.2V when fully charged, use a 47Ω resistor to protect the internal chip while maintaining a brilliant emerald glow.

  • Directional Logic: Because the lens is clear, this LED acts like a tiny flashlight. If you need a wide-angle status light for a side-viewing panel, use our diffused version; if you want a sharp, bright beam that can be seen from across a room, this is the one.

  • Status "Go" Signaling: This LED is significantly brighter than the diffused version. It is perfect for outdoor robots or projects used in bright indoor environments where a standard indicator might be hard to see.
