Since it does not include servos or a controller, it offers the flexibility to use your own components for a customized build.

Note on Electronics: Requires 4 Micro Servos (SG90 or MG90S) and an Arduino-compatible board to function.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

Servo Upgrade: While standard SG90 plastic-gear servos work, we highly recommend using MG90S metal-gear servos for the "Shoulder" and "Elbow" joints. These joints carry the most weight, and metal gears will prevent stripped teeth during heavy lifting.
Power Management: Do not power the servos directly from your Arduino's 5V pin. Use an external 5V 2A power adapter or a Li-ion battery with a buck converter to prevent the controller from resetting under load.
Software Calibration: Before attaching the servo horns to the acrylic parts, use your code to center all servos to 90 degrees. This prevents the arm from hitting its own mechanical limits upon first startup.
Smooth Motion: If you find the joints are too tight, slightly loosen the bolts. Applying a tiny drop of plastic-safe lubricant to the moving acrylic contact points can also reduce friction.
