Product Description The 5mm Water Clear Yellow LED is designed for projects that require a high-intensity, focused beam of golden-yellow light. Unlike diffused LEDs that provide a soft, wide glow, this "water-clear" model features a completely transparent lens that allows the amber light to pass through with maximum brilliance and zero scattering. When the power is off, the LED is colorless and transparent; when turned on, it emits a powerful, sharp beam of yellow light. This makes it perfect for high-visibility warning signals, decorative spotlighting, and custom automotive or robotic indicators.

Prototyping and Engineering Tips from Robogears

  • Voltage Awareness: Yellow LEDs typically operate at a lower forward voltage (2.0V – 2.4V) than blue or white versions. When powering from an Arduino (5V), we recommend using a 150Ω to 220Ω resistor. A 220Ω resistor is best for a steady indicator, while a 150Ω resistor will drive it to maximum brightness.

  • 3.7V Battery Integration: To run these from a Li-ion or Li-Po battery, use a 100Ω resistor. This safely manages the voltage gap as the battery moves from 3.7V to 4.2V, ensuring the yellow color stays a rich golden amber.

  • The "Spotlight" Effect: Because this lens is clear, the light is very directional. If you want a "soft glow," use our diffused version; if you want a "sharp beam" that is visible from a long distance, this is the one.

  • Signaling Logic: These high-brightness LEDs are excellent for "Caution" signals on a robot chassis. Because they are so bright, they can even be seen clearly in well-lit indoor environments or under direct sunlight.
